Clara Cover Quilt

I am so excited to share with you my very first pattern, "CLARA". Clara is now available in my shop. First, I want to tell you how I came up with the name for the pattern. Clara is in honor of my Grandma Clara Leonardo. She was beautiful, kind, strong, and very feisty. She was Italian through and through. She lived to feed and love on us kids. She lit up a room when she walked in. She was my light growing up and I have looked to her example many times through the years. Though, she is no longer with us I think of her every day. I am blessed to have amazing, strong women in my life and you will see me honoring those women in my patterns. This is the first of more to come.

Now about the pattern. I made two versions of this pattern. The quilt featured here is the cover for the pattern. The pattern comes in 3 sizes; baby, small lap (cover quilt ) and large lap. I will be sharing more about the second version in a future blog post. The cover quilt measures 65" x 73" and is made using the Then Came June curated bundle for Robert Kaufman and Quilters Linen for the flying geese blocks. It is bound using the black quilters linen.

The pattern uses two different blocks, rail fence block and a flying geese block. It includes instructions for making 4 at a time flying geese but you can use any method of your choosing. The pattern is made for an advanced beginner. Flying geese blocks can be challenging so if you are not familiar with how to make them check out some of the no waste flying geese tutorials online.

The pattern is very versatile and has options for different layouts. You can use yardage, fat quarters or jelly rolls for the rail fence blocks. It can be made in a more organized planned out way like the cover quilt or use up your scraps for a scrappier version. As Gudrun says, "Be a rebel" make it our own.

I love how the black and pink flying geese blocks make the rail fence blocks really stand out. There is so much contrast between the two blocks.

I am so happy to share my pattern with you. It's available as a PDF download or paper version at the shop page on my website. If you want to be the first to know when new things are coming you can sign up for my newsletter. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and for purchasing my pattern. It is appreciated more than you know. Be sure to share your finished quilts on social using the hashtags #clara and #purpledaisyquiltdesigns.

Until Next time,
